The Arc of Blackstone Valley is a mission-driven nonprofit agency dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities across residential, employment, and day programs. The Arc of Blackstone Valley fosters community connections daily to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve success in the workplace, at home, and in their neighborhoods. Operating 24/7, the Agency employs approximately 200 staff, 150 of whom are unionized (SEIU). It maintains a deep-rooted culture of staff loyalty, cross-training, and internal promotion. The Organization owns and manages a combination of direct and tax-credit housing properties and is proud of its collaborative and stable workplace culture.

Position Overview:

The Controller will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations and planning, ensuring compliance with Medicaid/state billing regulations, and guiding the Organization through current and future systems transitions. The role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring the ability to manage daily fiscal operations while contributing to long-term organizational growth, potential mergers, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the CEO, this Professional will play a crucial role in guiding a stable yet evolving organization through modernization, leadership transition, and enhanced fiscal controls—all while upholding the Agency’s deep commitment to the individuals it serves.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic and Organizational Leadership, serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on financial strategy, sustainability, and operational improvements.

• Financial Management and Reporting

• Medicaid and Billing Compliance

• Labor Relations and Union Guidance

• Team Leadership and Development

• Technology and Systems Transition to NetSuite

• Benefit and Insurance Oversight

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressive financial leadership experience; or a combination of a degree and experience.

• Proven ability to lead teams and mentor staff.

Qualities of the Ideal Candidate:

• Mission-driven financial leader with a strong command of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, and GAAP compliance. 

• This individual is both technically fluent and people-oriented. 

• They lead with integrity, emotional intelligence, and a calm, collaborative presence. 

The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 - $140,000, plus additional benefits and bonus based on individual and company performance. Compensation is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the role, function, and associated responsibilities, as well as a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
