KLR Executive Search is pleased to partner with our Client, Jarmoc Farms, to recruit its new Controller. Founded in 1907, Jarmoc Farms is a fourth-generation, family-owned agricultural business and one of Connecticut’s largest and oldest continuously operating tobacco farms. With over 1,500 acres under cultivation, including 750 acres dedicated to Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco—a prized crop known for its rich, sweet flavor—the Farm combines deep tradition with a spirit of innovation. Headquartered in Enfield, CT, Jarmoc Farms operates a complex, multi-entity business with approximately 35 full-time employees and 175 seasonal workers through the H-2A visa program. The company has invested more than $20 million in land, barns, and infrastructure, and has diversified its operations by leasing land for solar energy development, adding new income streams and long-term sustainability. This position is on-site five days in Endfield, CT.
The Opportunity:
Reporting directly to ownership, this is an outstanding opportunity to serve as the financial right hand to a highly engaged, forward-looking leadership team. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations across multiple LLCs, manage cash flow and reporting, and ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across a fast-moving business environment.
This is a hands-on role for an accomplished financial professional who thrives in an entrepreneurial, family-run organization, someone who brings structure, insight, and reliability to a dynamic agricultural enterprise.
Key Priorities Include:
· Maintain accurate books and financial reporting across five LLCs using QuickBooks Online.
· Manage cash flow forecasting, intercompany reconciliations, and banking relationships.
· Oversee compliance (insurance, registrations, tax notices, permits, utilities).
· Supervise vendor payments, cost tracking, and capital asset management.
· Partner with internal staff (finance, HR/payroll) and external advisors (CPA, banking, legal).
· Deliver concise monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash reports for leadership review.
· Proactively identify and communicate financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
The Successful Candidate Will Bring:
· Proven experience managing multi-entity accounting in a private company setting.
· Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and solid command of Excel.
· Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
· A proactive, collaborative mindset and ability to anticipate needs.
· Comfort working in a trust-based, family-run environment with a mix of structure and autonomy.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; public accounting experience a plus.
