KLR Executive Search Group is proud to partner with H. Carr & Sons, LLC to recruit a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for its Providence, Rhode Island headquarters, due to a planned retirement. H. Carr is a leading, family-owned specialty subcontractor with over $100M in annual revenue and a strong reputation across New England. 

This is a senior leadership role within a stable, relationship-driven organization undergoing a generational transition. The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive team, partnering closely with the CEO and President to drive financial strategy, operational performance, and organizational scalability. This role blends hands-on leadership with strategic oversight and will lead the accounting, financial reporting, and administrative functions of the business.

Responsibilities:

• Lead all accounting and financial operations, including month-end close and financial reporting.
• Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Develop and deliver financial insights, KPIs, and variance analysis to leadership.
• Partner with operations and project teams to improve financial and operational performance.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance.
• Manage banking, bonding, audit, tax, and external financial relationships.
• Oversee payroll, insurance administration, and safety-related financial functions.
• Evaluate and implement improvements in financial systems, ERP, and processes.
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.

Qualifications:

• 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
• Experience in construction or project-based industries preferred.
• Strong expertise in project accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting.
• Experience in family-owned or privately held businesses preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial controls.
• ERP implementation experience required (Trimble Spectrum a plus).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base salary range of $250,000 – $300,000
• Bonus opportunity based on performance
