KLR Executive Search is proud to partner with LIUNA Training and Education Fund (www.liunatraining.org) to recruit for the organization's Manager of Finance and Accounting position. The LIUNA Training and Education Fund is an integral part of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), one of the world's oldest and most respected labor unions. LIUNA Training develops the curriculum, certifies the instructors, and supports a network of over 70 affiliated training centers throughout the United States and Canada. Its programs are used to train Construction Craft Laborers in the many different career opportunities available to them as members of LIUNA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team by, setting clear expectations, providing training and coaching, and fostering a communicative, teamwork-oriented environment.
  • Manage financial accounting systems, internal controls, internal and external reporting, compliance with government funder regulations. Actively manage and forecast operating and capital cash availability.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance and accuracy of the General Ledger, ensuring accounting records are organized in an orderly fashion.
  • Oversee the Organization's annual audit process; prepare audit workpapers and schedules and record adjusted journal entries and draft the financials.
  • Track cash flow and analyze the Organization’s financial strength and weaknesses, whilst proposing corrective actions.
  • Monitor the allocation of grants to cover program and personnel expenses and work with management to support proper and timely expenditures of grant funds, recommending corrective action, including budget modifications to ensure timely spend-down of grants.
  • Manage month-end investment and bank statement reconciliations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related.
  • Strong supervision and team management skills, with experience leading and mentoring finance professionals.
  • Experience interpreting complex financial, technical, and governmental regulations and laws; preparing complex financial statements and reports; and analyzing, defining, and correcting accounting discrepancies.
  • Skillful and patient communicator who can effectively respond to inquiries and present tailored information to staff, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset and thinks holistically about operations and the cascading effect of financial decisions.
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector with a strong understanding of government Uniform Guidance and its application is helpful.
